Sapphire
The easiest place to hunt for Sapphire Shards is in Ered Luin. There are three spider bosses here who all drop Shards. Head for Naegarch in Rath Terraig, then Burzrit along the road of the western hills and Azuzol over in the eastern hills. You can also try the bosses in the Old Forest but I haven't confirmed they drop shards yet and they spawn on commonly used pathways so are quickly killed by anyone doing quests in the area. Remember that most bosses have an 8 hour respawn time so this makes them very rare to encounter. Ruby
Not so easy to find in variety as Ruby bosses are scattered around and quickly defeated by passing players when they respawn. Your best best is Umnen in the Barrows who respawns every 10 minutes. Every other boss is 4 to 8 hours respawn time and appear close to quest areas. Beryl
Head for Sarnur where every boss drops a shard. There's a few quick runs from Aughaire in Angmar, closest is Chillgrip, then Caitlin Adder-kiss. Each Garth Agarwen instance has at least one Boss that drops Adamants. GA Arboretum is fastest to acquire shards. Mithril
Head for Moria or Lothlorien and mine the Ore resources. You will occasionally find a shard while prospecting. Also loot the chests after defeating Instance Bosses.
